Getting my kidney stones removed.

Tue Jul 14, 2009, 1:57 PM
So after numerous visits to the doctor, radiologist, urologist, and getting a ton of x-rays, ultrasounds, and CAT scans, I finally have my kidney stones out of the way.

I woke up early in the morning of July 13, 2009 to get a pregnancy test done. Even if you are 100% sure you aren't pregnant you have to have it done by law. So when I got the the place I had to wait there for about an hour in the waiting room because they just started using a new computer system. So I'm guessing that's why it took so long. I had to fill a tube of blood which didn't take so long. Then after that I drove home. I wasn't allowed to eat since the night before and sill wasn't allowed to eat until after the kidney stone part of the surgery was done. I laid on the couch until my dad and I left to go the the surgical center. I didn't have much to do because I wasn't allowed to wear make-up or jewelry, so I just left the house almost right after I woke up from my nap.

Once I got there I had to fill out a few papers. Then while the receptionist was going over information, they put a bracelet on my wrist. After putting on a gown, they called me back to the room where I was prepped before actually getting the surgery done. I kept sweating from being so nervous. An IV was first placed in my hand then after that didn't do much they moved the IV to my wrist. I guess for not eating for over 12 hours, the veins were harder to find. And since I wasn't allowed to eat for such a long time, they said I had to get some kind of fluid going thru my veins to keep me hydrated. All of the separate doctors came to see me while I still awake. I got my blood pressure taken countless times and I had to keep a pulse oximeter on. All of my hair was pulled up and fit into a cap. I had all of these thing attached to my arm it was hard to sign the papers. While I was still hooked up to the medical monitor, I was rolled out to the operating room.

I got onto the other bed. I was laying down and all of the doctors were in the room. The anesthesiologist was next to me while I was put on the operating table. One of the doctors told me that while I am under anesthesia that they would put a breathing tube in my throat. He told me that while the anesthesia was being put in my veins, that it would feel cold. And as soon as he said that, I did get a weird feeling. Right after I felt that, I was off to sleep.

I woke up in the first room I was in with my dad sitting next to me. I still had the IV and finger thing on. I was awake, but it was so hard for me to not fall asleep again. They gave me water to drink. My legs kept shaking like I was shivering. Everyone came in to see how I was doing. Eventually all of the things came off my arm and I was able to finally walk. I was a little dizzy at first but I got use to it. My dad brought the car up to the curb. A nurse walked me out of the place and out to my dads car. I fell asleep and the ride home seemed to take forever.

On the way home, my dad picked up my prescriptions. I have two pills to take. One is every eight hours and one is every six hours to stop the pain. I'm suppose to drink at least one full glass of water every hour. When I got home I went to bed without even eating because I was so tired. I woke up a few hours later, went on the computer for a little, then went back to bed. Now I am now back to my go to bed at 6 am wake up at 3 pm routine.

Overall I'd say the experience was not too bad. I'm not use to being in a room with a bunch of doctors. I hate that center-of-attention feeling where everyone is staring at you with barley any cloths on. It's not really something I was looking forward to, but I'm glad it's over. I felt no pain at all except when they put the needles in my arm and in my hand. I've never had any other sort of medical treatment done before. If somebody would have told me a year earlier that this would have happened, I would strait up deny it. Ever since I went to the doctor for extreme back pain is when it all started. And it just took off from there. Like I said earlier, I've had many doctor appointments, x-rays, CAT scans, and ultrasounds done I wouldn't even be able to count them on both hands. I'm just so glad it is all over with, except for a few follow ups, but it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulder

Cast light upon the darkened Earth
Save those lost in despair
O' Mighty Ocean guide us as we journey through
the darkest pit of night.
May time, ever fleeting, forgive us
We who have forsaken our song and buried our future
